Istanbul, Pamukkale and Cappadocia and the monuments of Troy and Ephesus are just the beginning of this in-depth journey which takes you from the Byzantine highlights of former Constantinople to central Anatolia and back. Gallipoli, Ephesus, Pamukkale, Cappadocia and the Goreme National Park, Ankara and Bursa will all stir and inspire.
Day 1: Fly London to Istanbul
Day 2:Istanbul – drive to Gallipoli and cross by ferry to Canakkale
Day 3:Visit Troy and the stunning Pergamon, drive to Kusadasi
Day 4:Kusadasi – spend the day at the ancient city of Ephesus.
Day 5:Drive to Aphrodisias, then see the white terraces at Pamukkale
Day 6:Visit the Mevlana Museum in Konya
Day 7:Drive to Cappadocia and explore the extraordinary caves here
Day 8:Visit Uchisar Castle, the Valley of Fairy Chimneys and hike in Soganli Valley
Day 9: Drive to Ankara
Day 10:Visit ancient kingdom of Phryge and Tomb of King Midas, overnight Bursa
Day 11:Cross the Sea of Marmara by ferry crossing to the exotic city of Istanbul
Day 12:Istanbul – full day tour of Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace
Day 13:Fly back from Istanbul to London

Fiona’s travel tipsTOP TIP: The dark and extraordinary Basilica Cistern is a marvellously cooling and calming experience, particularly at the hottest time of the day. Beware the slippery floor and steps – I suggest sensible footwear!
DID YOU KNOW: Begun in 532 AD, it took 10,000 people nearly six years to build Hagia Sophia cathedral. It has also been a mosque and is now a museum.
