Sri Lanka (‘Splendid Land’) is an island of richly varied landscapes: lush green tea gardens, rolling hill country and verdant jungle embraced by palm fringed beaches and the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean. This cultural tour takes in the highlights, but leaves plenty of time for relaxing on Sri Lanka’s beautiful beaches.
Day 1: Fly to Colombo
Day 2: Stop at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage before driving north to Kandalama
Day 3: Tour the 11th century capital of Polonnaruwa and the ancient rock citadel of Sigiriya
Day 4: Drive to Kandy
Day 5: Visit the ancient Temple of the Tooth and enjoy a cultural dance performance in Kandy
Day 6: Drive to Nuwara Eliya, the very British ‘garden city’
Day 7: Nuwara Eliya
Day 8: Drive to Yala
Day 9: Spot deer, sambhur, crocodile, numerous birds and, of course, elephants at Yala National Park
Day 10: Relax at a beach hotel
Days 11&12: Beach days
Day 13: Drive to Colombo and fly to London
